What We Do

Women in Film and Television Vancouver offers a variety of professional development opportunities including workshops and mentorships.

WIFTV hosts monthly Networking Coffee Chats where an invited speaker addresses a relevant and timely topic to those working in screen-based media. Attendees are invited to introduce themselves and their projects prior to engaging in a question and answer period.

We produce the Annual Spotlight Awards Gala to bring together the BC Film community to celebrate the outstanding achievements of BC women in screen-based media.

We produce the Producer’s Workbook, providing a valuable resource to those entering the field of Producing.

We host a number of Networking Events including our Matrix Mixers, which are member-exclusive social events intended to celebrate WIFTV’s membership through community building and intermingling. Attendees can look forward to seasonal mixers as an opportunity to network and become acquainted with fellow-members, WIFTV staff & board, industry personnel, and community partners.

We offer the Artistic Merit Award as part of the Vancouver International Film Festival Awards, given to a film with a significant contribution by a woman, as well as partnering with other local festivals to provide awards for women filmmakers.

We create the annual Vancouver International Women in Film Festival whose mission is to:

  • create opportunities for audiences to engage in the work of women filmmakers;
  • create opportunities for women filmmakers to interact with their audiences;
  • create opportunities for the local, national and international filmmaking community, including audiences, industry representatives and media, to focus critically on the accomplishments of women in the filmmaking industry;
  • showcase and celebrate the diversity of women working in screen based media.

We engage in Advocacy through research and dissemination.
