WIFTV & CREATIVE BC PRESENT:
Writing the TV Movie with Roslyn Muir
Sponsored by CMPA - BC Producer's Branch
Date: January 18th
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: SFU Woodwards, Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre, Room 2555, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 West Hastings
Workshop Topics covered:
The Movie-of-the-Week format is a staple in TV and is actually the bread and butter for many screenwriters—seasoned and emerging. From female protagonist thrillers to ripped-from-the-headlines stories and Syfy shark movies, the odds of selling a TV script far outweigh the feature film genre. But how do they differ?
This hands-on, one day workshop will reveal the variety of genres within the MOW format, show you how to write and pitch a TV Movie script, reveal the structure and content differences between the feature film and TV movie genre, and get you writing your own MOW. Writers will do writing exercises, prepare concept pitch sheets, and learn how to take them to outline, treatment, and draft.
The day will also include info on production companies who produce MOWs, current opportunities, and the trends in the lucrative US market. The day will wrap up with Special Guest MOW producer, Keith Shaw of Odyssey Media, who will discuss the script development process.
