Women’s issues have been noticeable by their absence in the political conversation leading up to the Canadian federal election on October 19. Women in Film and Television Vancouver, working with other media industry leaders from across the country, want to stimulate more public dialogue on gender equality with a “National Day of Action” on social media.
On Sunday, September 20, we encourage both women and men across Canada who support gender equality to make their voices heard online during a designated 3-hour period. We invite Twitter and Facebook users to mobilize their personal networks of families, friends and colleague to take part in a nationwide conversation on Twitter around the political hashtags #elxn42 and #cdnpoli and/or to post comments on their Facebook pages. Participants are also be invited to temporarily change their social media profile pictures by uploading the #WomenVote National Day of Action twibbon available at https://twibbon.com/Support/womenvote.
Our objective is to remind all the political parties, journalists and others who keep track of these hashtags that #womenvote, that gender equality is still an issue, that women are a political force and that we intend to keep moving forward.
