Sally Stubbs


Sally Stubbs, May 2021 A Vancouver-based writer and educator, Sally also directs, acts, and produces theatre. Her theatre scripts, published by Scirocco Drama, have been presented in Canada, Sweden, India, South Africa, and the U.S. In the last few years, Sally has begun to write for the screen. Recently, her first pilot – Underbelly, inspired by Canada’s first women cops and her stage play And Bella Sang With Us – was named a semi-finalist in both The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (May 2021) and the Table Read My Screenplay Genre Competition (March 2021). Her first short – Doors & Windows – won Best Short Screenplay, World Webfest Mania Fall 2020 Edition. Work in process: Centurions, a feature film adapted from Sally’s stage play Centurions; and Speak Up, Centurions! (working title), a documentary in process with The Centurions Project team. Other writing in process: Polly & the Penthouse: A Spirited Musical. Selected awards/honours: Canada Peace Play Prize (U of C/Downstage); Enbridge Award Established Playwright (ATP); Writer in Residence, City of Richmond; Prime Minister’s award for her theatre work with youth. Sally is a proud co-founder and Senior Advisor for CASA: a Canadian-South African partnership between Playwrights Guild of Canada and the African Women Playwrights Network.
