Renée Lukacs

I love this work that finds me becoming an expert in something new with every project. I've become a bit of a producer of all-sorts over my past 15 years in media and I've had the opportunity to take on a variety of roles. I work in the field, the production office, the story room and spots in between. Somehow, a lot of my work has found me dealing with sensitive subject matter and people in vulnerable situations like victims of crime and emergency room and paramedical patients. It’s always been important to me that the people who choose to share their stories feel supported along the way and that their experiences are treated with the respect they deserve.

With this kind of work, I also have a lot of experience accessing and working with organizations like police, fire, ambulance, legal and correction services. In my private life, I’m a healthcare advocacy volunteer. Some of the TV work I am most proud to have been part of has found the opportunity for my interest in health care and the patient experience to meet with my professional life. Documentary series like Keeping Canada Alive (CBC), Emergency (Slice), and Paramedics: Life on the Line (Knowledge Network) all follow patient journeys though the Canadian healthcare system and highlight the work of health care professionals.

While my heart lies in documentary, on the other end of the spectrum, I've also done casting and production on lifestyle, dating, competition and hidden camera prank shows. I like to think that I have earned the respect, trust and friendship of my peers and that we've shared a few hearty laughs along the way.
