Kate Kroll


Kate Kroll is a multi-skilled filmmaker with a passion and commitment to utilizing digital platforms as a conduit to allow impactful stories to be told.

Kate began her career as a Post Production Coordinator at Brightlight Pictures. In 2010 she produced and directed the award-winning documentary No Fun City (Super Channel) and Shi-shi-etko (Bravo, APTN). She then went on to work as a Production Manager and Creative Producer at Make Believe Media (Very Bad Men, ID Discovery; The Nature of Things) and then eventually Screen Siren Pictures (Canada in a Day, CTV; The New Corporation, TIFF 2020; Citizen Bio, Showtime).

She has produced and/or directed a variety of projects including the short drama Shin-chi's Canoe (BravoFact!), the feature documentary, Path of Pilgrims (Vision TV), the Prism Prize nominated music video for Tanya Tagaq, and the Canada Council/NFB experimental film Rangwang: Burning for Freedom.

In August 2019, Kate produced the Telefilm feature, Portraits from a Fire. She is in development on a horror-comedy, Red Wings (Whistler Film Fest Producer's Lab, From Our Dark Side Pitch Lab) and a documentary about Canadian women's wrestling legend Luna Vachon (Raven Banner Entertainment). Kate spent 2020 as a Line Producer with Reel One Entertainment and is presently a Producer and Line Producer at Screen Siren Pictures.

In addition to creating award-winning films, Kate has garnered awards and grants from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media; Women in the Director's Chair; the DGC; wiftv; Canada Council for the Arts; the NFB, and BravoFACT. Kate's work has screened at TIFF, VIFF, ImagineNative, DOXA; and has been broadcast on Bravo, Super Channel, Knowledge Network, Vision TV, APTN, and Air Canada. She recently received a certificate in Entertainment Law from York University Osgoode Hall.

Kate brings her many passions to all of her projects. She has travelled to over 35 countries and is an accomplished performance artist, theatre producer, dancer, entertainment wrestler, and music nerd. She is always searching for new stories to tell, fascinating people to meet, keyholes into secret worlds to peer, and unique subcultures to uncover. She is president of her boutique production company, Black Moon Media.
