Carleen Kyle has written and/or directed for a variety of media—features, shorts, documentary, web series, corporate projects, and music video. Her feature screenplays have received recognition including:“Interspecies Family Therapy” winner of the From Our Dark Side competition; “Pearls’ Cut & Curl” winner of a Praxis Centre for Screenwriting fellowship and official Canada selection for the prestigious Hartley-Merrill International Screenwriting Award where it received honourable mention; and Webscene” short listed for the Slamdance Script Accessible Award. She has made many festival featured short films including the Crazy8s winner, “The Weather Girl” which was awarded the Best Female Director recipient at the Vancouver Short Film Festival and received multiple Leo Award nominations including Best Screenplay. As director of the TV pilot “Scrounger” Carleen was nominated for a Gemini in the Best Drama category, won the Saskatchewan Showcase Best Drama award, and earned a Best Director nomination. Carleen turned the camera on herself in the feature-length documentary “Heavy Heart Laughs” where she wrote and performed stand-up comedy in an exploration of trauma and humour. Carleen also teaches Writing and Directing and is a past president of Women in Film and Television Vancouver.
