As writer/director Carleen Kyle's 2012 Crazy 8s winning short 'The Weather Girl' has been an official selection at many film and comedy festivals across North America. In addition to winning three Leo nominations: Best Screenplay, Best Performance by a Female (Johannah Newmarch) and Best Editor (Gordon Rempel) and being recognized with an Honourable Mention for Best Short at the Sunset Film Festival in LA, 'The Weather Girl' was awarded Best Performance by a Female (Johannah Newmarch) and the Women in Film and Television Vancouver Award for Best Female Director at the 2013 Vancouver Short Film Festival.
Carleen's touching and funny documentary 'Heavy Heart Laughs' follows her personal journey healing from grief with humour by learning and performing stand-up comedy. The music video she made for a song written for the documentary titled 'Carleen' was selected for the NSI online short film festival
The 1/2 hour TV drama 'Scrounger', Carleen directed was nominated for a Best Drama Under an Hour Gemini and a Saskatchewan Showcase Award for Best Director. It was awarded the Saskatchewan Showcase Award for Best Drama, and Best Performance Male (Blaine Hart).
Carleen's feature script 'Pearl’s Cut & Curl' won a Praxis Centre for Screenwriting fellowship and was selected to represent Canada for the prestigious Hartley Merrill International Screen Writing Prize where it received Honourable Mention. Another feature script 'webscene' was short listed for the Script Accesible Award at Slamdance.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from University of Regina, where she won the Saskatchewan Showcase Award for Best Student Film two years running. She also has many credits working as an assistant director and location manager on film and television productions.
