Katharine Montagu has worked as a story editor since 1999. She graduated from UBC with a first class Creative Writing BFA, became a Praxis story editor-in-training and a Praxis Fellow. BC Film funded the development of two of Katharine's screenplays. Another, a romantic comedy called Mismatch was a quarter finalist at Austin. In 2003, Kat wrote and produced an award-winning short film Therapy starring Venus Terzo. Katharine's short film Jam Space, starring Fred Ewanuick, screened at the Whistler Film Festival. In 2004, she wrote for the Brightlight Pictures series Alienated.
Kat has been a screenwriting instructor at Vancouver Film School since 2001. She has been the writing department's Excellence in Teaching award winner twice and the best Instructor school-wide once. She has also taught at UBC, BCIT and LaSalle College. Active in the Vancouver filmmaking community, Kat has been Vice-President of WIFVV and a Cineworks board member. Kat's recent story editing jobs include Once There Was a Winter by Writer-Director Ana Valine (VIFF 2017) and she is about to work on A Cure for Death by Lightning. She has recently completed her first novel and an MFA inn Creative Writing from UBC.
