WIFTV Annual General Meeting

All WIFTV members* - including Professional, Executive, Associate, Lifetime, and Friends of WIFTV - are invited to attend our virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 25, 2021.

Please register for the AGM on this page. Online AGM registration closes at 6 pm Monday, January 25, 2021. The Zoom Meeting link will be provided in your email confirmation upon registration.

The AGM is an opportunity to find out more about what we’ve been doing in the past year (April 1, 2019, to May 31, 2020) as well as to participate in the election of the directors of the board and to vote on any motions. Please see the agenda, motions, list of director nominees and directors running for re-election, and reports, below. 

*At this time, only Professional, Executive, and Lifetime members in good standing are eligible to vote.

Special Resolution to change Part 2: Membership, Article 2.1 in its entirety to:

2.1 Article 2.1 There will be four (4) categories for membership in the  society: Lifetime, Experienced, Early Career/ Student and Ally

a) The directors, at their discretion, may confer Lifetime membership upon any woman deemed worthy of this honour. Lifetime members will have voting membership status, and membership dues will be waived for their lifetime.

b) Experienced members of the society are women who work or reside in British Columbia and have experience in the screen-based media industry. Experienced members have speaking and voting privileges.

c) Early Career/Student members of the society are women who work or reside in British Columbia and have begun a career in screen-based media. Early Career members are encouraged to upgrade to  Experienced Member status after five (5) years. Student members of the society reside in British Columbia and must be registered and working toward a diploma, degree or certification in a screen-based industry or related field. Early Career/Student members have speaking and voting privileges.

d) Ally members of the society are persons who do not meet the criteria for membership and who wish to support the society. Ally members of the society do not have speaking or voting privileges but may attend all open meetings of the society. 

Language from current WIFTV Bylaws (last revision 2018): 

2.1 Article 2.1 There will be five (5) categories for membership in the society: Lifetime, Executive, Professional, Associate, and Friend Of.

a) The directors, at their discretion, may confer Lifetime membership upon any woman deemed worthy of this honour. Lifetime members will have voting membership status, and membership dues will be waived for their lifetime.

b) Executive members of the society are women who work or reside in British Columbia and have ten (10) or more years of professional experience in the screen-based media industry. Executive members are voting members of the society.

c) Professional members of the society are women who work or reside in  British Columbia and have five (5) or more years of professional experience in the screen-based media industry. Professional members are voting members of the society.

d) Associate members are women who work or reside in British  Columbia and have less than five (5) years of professional experience in the screen-based media industry do not fully meet the requirements for membership but who wish to join the society. The Associate Member category shall be limited to a five (5) year maximum per member, after which the member shall be required to upgrade to Professional member status. Associate members do not have speaking or voting privileges but may attend all open meetings of the society.

e) Friends of the society are persons who do not meet the criteria for membership and who wish to support the society. Friends of the society do not have speaking or voting privileges but may attend all open meetings of the society. 

Special Resolution to change Part 5: Directors and Officers, Article 5.5 in its entirety to: 

5.5 That each director shall have been a voting member of the society in good standing for at least one year prior to their election. An exception is made for members of the industry with over ten years of experience, who may run for and be elected to the Board at any time.  The composition of the Board must include at least 35% Members that have over ten years in the industry.  

Language from current WIFTV Bylaws (last revision 2018): 

5.5 That each director shall have been a voting member of the society in good standing for at least one year prior to her election. An exception is made for members of the Executive level, who may run for and be elected to the Board at any time. The composition of the Board must include at least  35% Executive Members.

Motion to set the membership fees per Part 2, Article 7, as follows:

Lifetime - $0.00, Experienced - $99.00, Early career/Student - $50.00,  Ally - $99.00.  

Fees for each of the above membership categories may be discounted for geographically distant (individuals living outside the BC Lower Mainland),  individuals with disabilities and seniors (65+). A discounted fee is also available for those experiencing economic hardship. 

Current Fee Structure: 

Lifetime - $0.00, Executive - $99.00, Professional - $99.00, Associate - $99.00, Friend of WIFTV - $99.00.

Fees for each of the above membership categories may be discounted for geographically distant (individuals living outside the BC Lower Mainland),  individuals with disabilities and seniors (65+), and students. A discounted fee is also available for those experiencing economic hardship. Any member may pay a supplementary membership fee and such members will be provided with the optional membership benefit of receiving a “Thank You” on the WIFTV website and in the VIWIFF printed program.
