Tricksters and Writers participants have the opportunity to delve into story development and screenwriting in an online workshop setting, crafting their stories for the screen while also having the opportunity to network with fellow Indigenous creatives.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, Tricksters and Writers – Northern BC will take place online.

Program Format:

Tricksters and Writers takes place over 7 sessions, offering participants the opportunity to write and workshop their stories, while delving into topics such as, Cultural Authenticity; Speaking Your Truth; Making and Breaking Plot; Writing Great Characters; and The World of the Film. Writers will also have the opportunity to learn about funding opportunities to bring their stories to life on the screen

Master Classes: Tuesday evenings October 27th, November 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th, 2020 (exact time of day will be determined)
BREAK: December 2020
Workshop: January 12th & 19th

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:

  • Identify as an indigenous woman
  • Have a short or feature-length film idea that they would like to write
  • Have a computer and access to the internet
  • Be available to participate in the program according to the dates outlined above

How to Apply:

1. Register by clicking on the Register Now button above. Registration is free, but please continue through checkout to complete the registration process. 

2. After completing your registration, email a PDF to that includes the following:

  • A five-page writing sample such as five pages from a screenplay or short story you have written or are writing. The sample must be fiction writing.
  • A resume and or filmography that includes your current contact information
  • If the writing sample is not from the screenplay you wish to develop during this program, a short description (1-3 pages) of the film you would like to write. 

The deadline to apply is September 29th, 2020 at 11:59pm PST. Applicants will be notified by October 13th.
