Krista Gruen

Q&A with Krista:

1. Who are you and what do you do?

I'm a Mom of twin 4yr old boys, an independent filmmaker/producer, and a hair/makeup artist.

2. Is there anything specific you would like to share about your life or work with us at the moment?

I've applied for the Telefilm Production Fund with a feature film that fellow WIFTV member Laura Adkin has written and will Direct. I'm also working on a series with my filmmaking partner Orsy Szabo. Our previous work can be seen at www.YellowHeartPictures.com .

3. Is there any quarantine activity that you would like to share in particular?

Our boys received pedal bikes for their birthday and it's been fun watching how quick they have been learning how to ride. Making time to Facetime or Zoom with friends has been really great too.

Meet Erin Mussolum!

Q&A with Erin:

1. Who are you and what do you do?

I am an independent television producer by trade, the Co-Executive Director of Crazy8s Film Society and run my own communications and marketing company called Chickadee Creative that specializes in the film and television industry.

2. Is there anything specific you would like to share about your life or work with us at the moment?

I can certainly talk about the creative process, working in isolation, being creative in isolation and slaying the “To Do” list. The art of the finely crafted “story” or pitch is something I am also passionate about (see question 3). I can also talk about the pros and cons of freelance life versus corporate work environments.

3. Is there any quarantine activity that you would like to share in particular?

Besides doing all the nerdy and trendy things like baking sourdough bread, making kombucha and growing my own vegetables, I am currently working on launching a Pitching and Development Workshop slated for launch late spring / early summer.

Meet Barbara Ellison!

Q&A with Barbara:

1. Who are you and what do you do?

It sounds very grand to say I am a teacher, a writer, a director, and an actor, but those four occupations are the points of my professional compass. To change the metaphor, my two adult daughters -- one here and one in Oregon -- anchor me personally.

2. Is there anything specific you would like to share about your life or work with us at the moment?

My involvement in film is as a writer, although I write more stage plays than film scripts. However, I did create and write a CBC series called 49th and Main about 13 years ago, and I have a screenplay in the works called Lynx which I have submitted as a concept to From Our Dark Side a couple of times. I was able to send a series idea to the CBC Creative Relief call from a some weeks ago. This current quiet time has also allowed me to revise a historical novel I have written (been writing) which may never see the light of day.

3. Is there any quarantine activity that you would like to share in particular?

I wake up each morning glad to be alive, and deeply aware as to how lucky I am to live here in BC, to have a home, food, water, electricity, wifi, and above all, good health. An activity? Every week a group of us connect on Zoom and read a play together -- we informally take turns choosing a play and "casting" it and then reading it. Other activities: maintaining the three sisters -- food, exercise, and sleep. And I read a lot!
