January 6, 2020

Women in Film and Television Vancouver and William F. White closed the applications for the Production Management Mentorship in January 2020. The mentorship is designed for the independent producer who is interested in increasing her knowledge of Production Management including the ins and outs of equipment requirements and rentals as well as budgeting and resource planning for both low and high budget shows.

Program Curriculum

The mentee will participate in a 3-day on-site placement at William F. White International where they will gain some technical knowledge of lighting, grip, cable/distro, and camera equipment while learning about how to properly budget for these items on a shoot.  The mentee will spend time in each department learning about doing business and establishing a network with Canada’s largest equipment rental house.  The placement will be scheduled at a mutually agreeable time between March and November 2020.

A professional production manager will be matched with the mentee for approximately six to eight hours of instruction that can be broken up over two to three sessions.  Schedule for this is flexible and will be determined by the schedule of both the mentee and the mentor.  The mentee will prepare for these sessions with specific questions or learning goals she hopes to achieve.

Application Process

Those interested in applying must have on set experience on a minimum of two short films (corporate and or industrial included). The participant will be selected based on how well the mentorship serves them at this time in their career.  An independent jury of industry professionals, including a representative of William F. White and a professional production manager, will select the mentee.

To apply, please register above, pay the $25 registration fee and send, via email, in one pdf, your resume and a detailed letter explaining: why you want to participate in this mentorship program; how your previous experience prepares you for it; and what you hope to have achieved by the end of the mentorship experience. Letters should be a maximum of two pages and applications should be sent to operations@womeninfilm.ca.

Applicants must be associate, professional or executive members in good standing of WIFTV at the time of application and for the duration of the program. The selected participant must be able to complete the program by November 2020.

Applications are now closed. Thank you to all that took the time to apply.
