Little India Big Business; 45 min 2 sec; 2016
Director, Producer, Writer: Bal Brach (WIFTV)

The average wedding in North America costs $30,000 but if you're Indian, in Canada, that cost is $100,000. Little India Big Business explores the growth of big, fat Indian weddings in Canada over the last decade. It reveals the pressures that young South Asians face when planning their weddings. The documentary highlights how lucrative these celebrations are for vendors, the lengths they go to ensure their clients’ needs are met, and the cost of this commercialization on the sanctity of marriage.

Bal Brach is an award winning journalist with more than a decade of experience working in newsrooms across Canada. She's worked in front and behind the camera for all three of Canada's major news networks. Little India Big Business was her first documentary film and it aired on CBC television in 2016. Bal wrote, directed and produced the film through her own production company.
