PANEL DISCUSSION: CURRENT INITIATIVES TO ADDRESS THE GENDER IMBALANCE IN MEDIA PRODUCTION

A panel discussion to follow the screening of Girl From God’s Country

Location: Vancity Theatre, 1181 Seymour Street

Mr. Claude Joli-Coeur, the Government Film Commissioner and Head of the National Film Board of Canada, will give a short presentation entitled: Women in Film at the NFB: A rich history and a promise for the future, and will announce the NFB's new initiatives toward achieving long term gender equity in leadership positions at the NFB and on NFB productions.

Ms. Rina Fraticelli, Executive Director of Women in View, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening gender and cultural diversity in Canadian media,will present 2X MORE, a new initiative aimed at doubling the number of women directing live action television in Canada from 17% to 35% in two years. 

Ms. Susan Brinton, Media Consultant, and member of WIFTV's Advocacy Committee will speak about inspirations for Canada, outlining the innovative gender equity initiatives for screen based industries being implemented in other countries and discuss some of the strategies our own WIFTV Advocacy Committee is developing. 

Ms. Karen Day, Girl from God's Country Director, will also join the discussion.

This panel discussion is moderated by Ms. Sharon McGowan, Director of WIFTV’s Board and Chair of its Advocacy Committee and Associate Professor of Film Production at the University of British Columbia.
