Meet Ashley Evans!
Q&A with Ashley:
1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Ashley Evans and I’m an artist, actress, writer, and filmmaker originally from a teeny town in the Yukon. I’m a goofball AND yet an introvert, although my fiance doesn’t agree because I LOVE people...I live for connection. I’m also a Communications Manager at Bardel Entertainement Inc. (Rick & Morty, Solar Opposites) where I manage internal & external Communications and help bridge a community of 300-500 artists. I’m on the Board of Directors of WIFTV as the Outreach Chair.
2. Is there anything specific you would like to share about your life or work with us at the moment?
I’m passionate about helping create gender parity and greater diversity in the film industry. TV and movies are too slow to catch up to this vast, beautiful, and diverse world we live in. It’s a complex issue. I’m still learning a lot about how I can create change; and how I can ‘think’ from an inclusive lens in the art I create, the media I consume, and my life in general. My fiance, who was born in Korea, and I are producing a short film horror film called “Han” that challenges biases that we have towards other people. Han is a Korean word with no English translation. It’s a concept of an emotion used to describe a combination of rage, grief, and regret. A feeling so powerful some believe you can die from it.
3. Is there any quarantine activity that you would like to share in particular?
Painting with acrylics outside on my patio! Painting always puts me into a meditative state, which is why I do it. After a busy day being locked into the computer, the painting will clear my mind. I’m also doing the Artist’s Way, a 12-week program that helps people unblock their creativity. I love writing morning pages every morning with coffee.
Meet Kat Montagu!
Q&A with Kat:
1. Who are you and what do you do?
I have an BFA and a MFA in Creative Writing and work in the industry primarily as a writer and story editor. I’m an award-winning screenwriting instructor at VFS and the senior story editor for Crazy 8s. I recently published an eBook called The Dreaded Curse of Screenplay Formatting and completed editing on my first novel The English Fox.
2. Is there anything specific you would like to share about your life or work with us at the moment?
I’m currently writing my first Christmas TV movie script. It’s interesting because it’s structurally different than a feature script and has such a specific demographic. I’m enjoying it, actually. It’s like my fun project to sneak away and work on.
3. Is there any quarantine activity that you would like to share in particular?
My husband is the cook and baker in our house (his sourdough starter is like a new family member), so I’ve started a vegetable garden and am already harvesting lettuce and kale. After I finish online teaching and my teenager finishes online school, we do the dishes then binge watch TV series about badly-behaved teenagers.
Meet Michelle Paymar!
Q&A with Michelle:
1. Who are you and what do you do?
I'm an award-winning documentary filmmaker and I work in non-fiction television as a director/story editor.
2. Is there anything specific you would like to share about your life or work with us at the moment?
I'm incredibly lucky to have finished my latest film in 2018. After 40 film festivals and other screenings, only 4 festivals had to cancel or go online because of Covid19. My heart goes out to filmmakers who are just now finishing their projects.
3. Is there any quarantine activity that you would like to share in particular?
I'm in the process of excavating and organizing all my work and papers - lots of digitizing and shredding coming up!
