Membership supports the work we do. We are a not-for-profit society with a mandate to celebrate and advance the artistic development and careers of women working in screen-based media. We have initiated and participated in advocacy efforts that have resulted in several of the recent agency announcements regarding policy and programming shifts aimed at creating a more gender-balanced industry. We also research, monitor and disseminate information about the status of women in screen-based media, and offer a variety of programming and networking events as well as the annual Spotlight Awards Gala, coming up on June 19th!
Our programming highlights include the six-day Vancouver International Women in Film Festival; the From Our Dark Side genre concept contest and incubator program; the brand new Tricksters and Writers screenwriting program for Indigenous women; two project-based mentorships: the WIFTV–Banff World Media Festival Mentorship; the WIFTV–Whistler Film Festival Film Market Preparation Mentorship, as well as two career advancement mentorships: the Actor Career Mentorship Program and the William F. White Production Management Mentorship.
