This workshop will focus on:

  • Planning the cinematography needs of a project
  • Communicating with a cinematographer
  • Attributes of the Visual Image including framing, lighting, composition, exposure, mood, emotion.
  • Hands on basic how to’s of Framing, Composition, Lighting
  • Live group demonstration focusing on Designing the shot and Key Creative dialogue
  • Today’s technology - a run through of camera gear options and how to choose wisely to
  • Best fit for your budget and needs
  • Discussion on finishing the look and colour grading
  • Group exercises providing hands on work with gear and shot design

Presenter: Sarah Thomas Moffat, Director of Photography – member of CSC, IATSE, and WIFTV.

With twenty years in the film and television industry, Sarah has dedicated herself to the craft of cinematography. Commercial, narrative, documentary, and factual, Sarah has lit and filmed every genre.

Her work has reached TIFF, Hotdocs and many other festivals internationally. Some acknowledgements are; Canadian Society of Cinematographers nomination for Best Cinematography by DOP for Performance; Best Dramatic Short-TOIFF; LA Movie Awards-Award of Excellence; COMMF Fest Global Community Film Festival-Best Documentary; Best Shorts Film Competition-Award of Recognition; We Like ‘em Short Film Festival-Best Cinematography. Sarah’s broadcast work has aired on CBC, Bravo, APTN, Discovery, History, Animal Planet, as well as commercial air time and online.
