WIFTV is pleased to present a new mentorship initiative for 2012, in partnership with William F. White International Inc. The mentorship will take place at William F. White’s facility in Vancouver.
The successful applicant has been selected and WIFTV is delighted to announce that Lucy MacLeod is this year's mentorship recipient. “Lucy stood out as someone who has had a proven work track record in the industry. Her experience as a production coordinator and her current position as Studio Manager with the “Mr. Young” TV Series, made her an ideal candidate to move forward with this mentorship. We feel she is at a perfect place in her career to best utilize this award.” Robyn Weiner, chair of the William F. White. “It will ultimately help emerging talent build confidence and relationships, while opening up doors for a career in production management.” The William F. White Production Manager Mentorship (West) provides one emerging Canadian female production manager with hands-on training. The successful applicant will join William F. White as an intern to learn about production equipment for digital projects, television and film equipment planning, resource management, and budget planning. The winner will spend a total of ten days on site participating in the intensive training program. In addition, the winner will be partnered with two experienced female production managers (Tia Buhl and Yvonne Melville) for individualized mentorship sessions. BENEFITS
Tia Buhl has over 10 years of film experience in Vancouver as a Line Producer/Production manager. She first gained her experience in the entertainment industry while working inVictoria where she held technical positions at the local TV and radio stations, helping launch what was the “The New VI” in 2000. In 2001, Tia won the Women’s Television Network Technical Internship. Starting out in assistant camera and editor positions, later working in the production office, Tia soon worked her way towards her lifelong goal, the world of feature films. In 2005, Tia gained her DGC membership and has since completed over 30 movies. In 2011, Tia completed a independent feature Foreverland, two MOW’s for SyFy network and a mini-series Clue for Hasbro Studios for the HUB network.The successful William F. White Production Manager Mentorship (West) recipient receives: a ten-day internship at William F. White in Vancouver, and direct mentorship with two experienced Production Managers: a session with Tia Buhl on "low budget" productions, and a session with Yvonne Melville on "high budget" productions. Yvonne Melville is a well-established Production Manager who has worked on a variety of television and feature films over the last 25 years, including: Falling Skies (Series, Dreamworks/TNT), Harper's Island (13 episodes, CBS), The Mummy 3 (Feature), and Shooter (Feature, Paramount Pictures).
