Commitee Information

There are many benefits to becoming a board member at Women in Film. Representing our great organization is an honour in itself, and will give you an added appreciation of our role in the film community. Our board members create meaningful connections with members and filmmakers in our community. They have increased visibility in the community and benefit immensely from the experience of running a committee.

Our board is a working board, where each member has responsibilities for an event or a committee. Some events occur annually, and some occur monthly. The time commitment required from each board member is dependent on the event that is chaired. Members can also serve on the Executive Committee as President, Vice-President, Treasurer or Secretary. These positions require additional meetings and time commitment.
  • Are a Full Member in good standing

  • Attend a monthly board meeting (the third Monday night of each month) where they present a written and oral report on their committee. These meetings are mandatory.

  • Chair a committee. The committee chair is responsible for the organization and execution of all activities related to that committee. Activities can include "producing" an event(s), or providing a service to the organization and its members. Duties can include: general organization of and overseeing the event/service; coordinating sponsorship (in consultation with the Sponsorship Committee); setting the calendar for an event and its prep and post-mortem activities (scheduling of committee meetings and tasks); and marketing and promotion.

  • Coordinate and direct committee members and volunteers.

  • Report to the Board on the success or lack of success of an event, financially and in all other ways.

  • Generate a financial report before and after the event.

  • Assemble a binder with hard copies (and copies on disk) of templates and samples of correspondence, schedules, budgets etc. for the event, to be passed onto next Chair to assume the committee.

  • Are available for additional meetings (as called by the President) whenever possible.

  • Take direction from the Chair, and be ready to provide such assistance as may be required, before, during and after an event.

  • Possess a great enthusiasm for our organization and are committed to serving a two year term.
