Elizabeth Yake is President of True West Films based on the west coast of Canada. As producer, her films have been nominated for 19 Genie / CSA Awards and each of her features and shorts have premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Films/TV include PILGRIMS, EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN, IT’S ALL GONE PETE TONG, MISS TEXAS. TWF focuses on structuring international coproductions for the world market. Elizabeth mostly recently completed the feature docu-drama HADWIN’S JUDGEMENT based on the story of The Golden Spruce in coproduction with the NFB and Passion Pictures, UK, Oscar winners 2013 for SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN. She is currently directing the feature Doc THE BOARD GAME MOVIE a co-production with Germany.

Finding your audience with Annelise Larson

Annelise comes from a background as an independent producer, with training at such prestigious institutions at the Canadian Film Centre (Producer’s Lab) and Banff Centre for the Arts (Electronic and Film Media). Since 1995 she has been working in the field of online marketing and has always been an avid gamer and consumer of digital content. She works extensively with government organizations and production companies in the film, television and interactive industries in North America. Her focus is helping content creators and storytellers to use the power of online language and data to define, find, attract and engage their audiences and work toward strategic and sustainable digital business models. She has sat on the Interactive Fund jury for BC Film + Media, the Experimental Stream jury for the CMF, and has taught across the country on behalf of such organizations as Telefilm, Women in Film, BC Film + Media, CHRC and the Independent Production Fund.  Annelise has developed and implemented marketing strategies and gathered and analyzed online data for digital and screen media products as diverse as social TV apps, transmedia experiences, webisode series, feature films, television series and production companies themselves. Her online course Becoming a Storypreneur has been taught to media storytellers across Canada and in conjunction with Boost Hbg in Sweden.

Creating the Universe - a look inside a genre writer’s room.

Karen Lam moderates a panel discussion with writers Dennis Heaton and Sonja Bennett.

 

Karen Lam has worked full-time in the film and television industry since 2000. Starting her career as a producer and entertainment lawyer, Karen has produced four feature films, eight short films and three television series. Her first short film as a writer/director (The Cabinet) won the NSI Drama Prize in 2006. She has since written/directed seven short films, a music video, a documentary television series, two feature films — Stained (2010) and Evangeline (2013) — and a web series Mythos (2015).

 

Dennis Heaton is a Canadian screenwriter working in film and television. He is known for Fido (2006), Motive (2013) and Atomic Betty (2004). His writing credits include Call Me Fitz (2010-2012), The Listener (2009), JPod (2008), Blood Ties (2007) and the feature film Fido (2006). Heaton’s work has received several nominations and awards including four Gemini nominations, four Canadian Screenwriting awards (Yvon of the Yukon script “The Trouble With Mammoths”), and nine Leo awards (Being Ian script “The Greatest Story Never Told”).

 

Sonja Bennett was born on August 24, 1980 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She is a Canadian actress and screenwriter. Her film debut was in the Canadian feature film Punch (2002), for which she won the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Canadian Film. She has since starred in the films Donovan's Echo (2011), Cole (2009), Control Alt (2008), Elegy (2008), Fido (2006), Godiva's (2005-2006), and Cold Squad (2004-2005), as well as a number of other works. In 2014, Bennett made her screenwriting debut with Preggoland in which she also starred.
